چکیده

Evaluation of experimental digital narrative often focuses on the overall user experience. While this is important, we recognise the need for more granular forms of evaluation to measure the e cacy of individual digital narrative delivery techniques. These continue to grow in variety as authors explore di erent approaches to telling stories using interactive media. In this paper we propose a multi-layered evaluation methodology based on the principle of deconstructing an interactive narratives internal fabula and story. This is followed by three separate stages of interview for collecting evidence of the e cacy of di erent techniques used within story payloads to deliver content. This proposed methodology shows early promise, and potentially provides a means to identify the individual e cacy of techniques within a wider digital narrative.

Towards Automatic Story Clustering for Interactive Narrative Authoring

Interactive storytelling systems are capable of producing many variants of stories. A major challenge in designing storytelling systems is the evaluation of the resulting narrative. Ideally every variant of the resulting story should be seen and evaluated, but due to combinatorial explosion of the story space, this is unfeasible in all but the smallest domains. However, the system designer stil...

User-driven narrative variation in large story domains using monte carlo tree search

Planning-based techniques are powerful tools for automated narrative generation, however, as the planning domain grows in the number of possible actions traditional planning techniques suffer from a combinatorial explosion. In this work, we apply Monte Carlo Tree Search to goal-driven narrative generation. We demonstrate our approach to have an order of magnitude improvement in performance over...

Modeling User Knowledge with Dynamic Bayesian Networks in Interactive Narrative Environments

Recent years have seen a growing interest in interactive narrative systems that dynamically adapt story experiences in response to users’ actions, preferences, and goals. However, relatively little empirical work has investigated runtime models of user knowledge for informing interactive narrative adaptations. User knowledge about plot scenarios, story environments, and interaction strategies i...

Analysis and Comparative of Grimas Actor Model in Pictures and Story of Sheikh Sanan

Attention to the narrative structure of stories from the twentieth century followed the science of linguistics and then semiotics as a branch of science. The narration of Sheikh Sanan is the most famous and longest story of Attar, which has been analyzed many times in terms of literature, narration and artistic since its creation. In the field of narration, Grimas proposed a comprehensive rule ...

Automated Extension of Narrative Planning Domains with Antonymic Operators

AI Planning has been widely used for narrative generation and the control of virtual actors in interactive storytelling. Planning models for such dynamic environments must include alternative actions which enable deviation away from a baseline storyline in order to generate multiple story variants and to be able to respond to changes that might be made to the story world. However, the actual cr...
